Happy December Solstice
The best plaid plans of mice and me.
Seasons greetings to anyone who happens to read this. Hope you all have a fantastic break over the solstice period, whether you're entering the depths of winter or, like us, sweating through the early summer.
As for me, in a few days I'll be starting my holiday break. A chance to touch grass, sit in the sun with a cold beverage, and interact with other humans without a glowing intermediary. Anything that hasn't already been done in this calendar year isn't going to get done until I'm back in the studio, most likely sometime in late January.
Some things I was hoping to get to after I got back from my list trip away, and haven't;
- Doing some serious update work on fediverse.party, where I got shoulder-tapped to take over as Lead Goose a few months ago.
- Closing up shop on both of my old SS blogs (this one and the Bridge Seat Co-op blog).
- Publishing a post describing the process of migrating from SS to Ghost in more detail.
- Reposting the three posts from the Bridge Seat blog that I still think have some value, and would like to be able to link to without sending people to SS.
- Getting Ghost's separate federation component installed on the service hosting this blog, so folks can follow it from the social web. For now, you can use BridyFed to follow it from the fediverse or the ATMosphere/ BlueSky.
- Finding an onshore alternative to paying MailGun to deliver blog posts to email subscribers, which is the default Ghost option.
To be honest, I'm not expecting to be tremendously productive on Disintermedia stuff over the summer, because I'm still planning to move to a different town in autumn. So much of my time will be spent dealing with the logistics of that, hanging out as much as possible with my friends here, and enjoying all the stuff I'm going to miss when I leave.
I'm not expecting to be particularly productive over autumn either, for pretty much the same reason. I'm going to be exhausted, disorientated, and busy getting set up in my new home (once I find one). It usually takes me at least three months to get back up to speed after moving house, let alone to a different part of the country. But I'm cautiously optimistic that after our Matariki and the June solstice, I'll be settled in and ready to really get into it.
As usual though, no promises ...
